SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Assistant Drugs Controller, District Srinagar, Reema Gizala with her team has seized 144 bottles of cough syrups and anti-cold preparations containing Diethylene Glycol impurities during district-wide inspections & the seized preparations had been flagged by authorities for causing child deaths in other states by contaminated pediatric cough and anti-cold syrups.
The inspections, which began on October 4, focused primarily on cough syrups and anti-cold preparations intended for children.
It said a total of 26 samples of different syrup brands have been collected so far for laboratory analysis. During the drive, the team seized 144 bottles of Respifresh TR (Syrup B.No. RO1GL2523), manufactured by Rednex Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad.
These were reported to contain Diethylene Glycol impurities above permissible limits by the Drug Testing Laboratory, Bhopal.
The authorities also checked the sales and purchase records of all such preparations at the inspected premises. A Government advisory restricting the use or dispensing of cough syrups to children under two years of age was circulated among retailers.
