Kishtwar, September 24: The Leader of Opposition (LoP) and MLA Paddar Nagseni Sh. Sunil Sharma today chaired a review meeting to assess the functioning of the PHE Department and took stock of the ongoing restoration work of the Naigad water supply scheme catering to Kishtwar town and adjoining areas.
Earlier in the day, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS), inspected the damaged stretches of the Naigad Gravity Water Supply Scheme at Wagam Nallah and Bajri Point, and later briefed the LoP about the situation.
The DC informed that of the two damaged sites—one at Wagan Nallah and the other at Bajri Point Site had already been restored, while work at Bajri Point is underway due to land sinking that disrupted the pipeline.
During the meeting, ExEn Jal Shakti, Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, apprised the LoP that the full restoration of the Naigad Water Supply Scheme is expected by tomorrow.
Additionally, the defunct water pipeline from the filtration plant to Panditgam will be restored and made operational by this evening, providing immediate relief to water-scarce areas, including Kuleed, Zellana, and adjoining localities.
The LoP directed the department to take strict measures against illegal and irregular connections in the gravity water pipeline and emphasized the need to ensure equitable distribution of potable water to all affected households.
