Jammu, Sep 20: The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu under the guidance of Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Ashish Chandra Verma, IAS flagged off a group of 19 paragliding pilots for the SIV / P4 Paragliding Course.
The course is scheduled from 20th September to 27th October 2025 in three phases and is designed to provide advanced paragliding training and skill enhancement to participants. Directorate of Tourism, Jammu has organized this course in collaboration with Atal Bihari Institute of Mountaineering, Manali.
The group was flagged off by Dr. Vikas Gupta, JKAS, Director Tourism, Jammu. During the flag-off he extended best wishes to the participants, highlighting that the initiative is a step forward in promoting adventure tourism and creating new opportunities of self-employment and professional growth for local youth.
He further added that tourism is committed to upgrade Adventure infrastructure in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Joint Director Tourism, Jammu, Aijaz Qaiser underlined that the initiative would not only empower trained youth but also help establish Jammu as a leading destination for adventure sports.
The upcoming paragliding site at Aithem in Jammu will provide a platform for the local youth to fly solo and tandem providing opportunities to the adventure enthusiasts of Jammu. Aijaz Qaiser, Joint Director Tourism, Jammu; Ms. Savita Chouhan, Deputy Director Tourism, Jammu; and Sh. Vishal Sadhotra, Assistant Director Tourism, Jammu and Sh. Arif Lone Assistant Director Tourism, NHW were present on the occasion along with the entire staff of the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu.
This set of 19 paragliders has already completed their P1,p2,p3 course from NIMAS (National Institute of Mountaineering and allied sports) and heading towards their last and final P4 / SIV course from -Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports.
After completion of the said course, they will be finally eligible for solo flying and tandem flights. Their SIV/P4 training course will be conducted at Bilaspur (Govind Sagar Lake) and Bir-billing (Himachal) which is considered as Asia's best in class institute/ infrastructure for paragliding and related activities.
This will equip our local youth with the skills to fly solo and tandem in the upcoming paragliding sites at Aitham (Surinsar).
The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu remains committed to diversifying tourism activities and creating new avenues to attract adventure enthusiasts from across the country. Department of tourism intends to prepare local youth for these adventure activities so as the overall visitors experience is raised to a considerable level.
