JAMMU, Aug 24: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh who reached here this afternoon, was unable to proceed to Chashoti as per schedule due to adverse weather conditions and reviewed post flashfloods situation from Raj Bhawan along with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha , Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh , whereas senior Officers including Northern Command chief Lt Gen Pratik Sharma and Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo were present.
Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma , DivCom Jammu Ramesh Kumar and IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti briefed the Defence Minister from Chasoti.
Rajnath was scheduled to preside over the high-level meeting at Gulabgarh after visiting Chashoti but had to cancel the visit there because of weather conditions.
Firstly , Defence Minister’s plane on way from New Delhi to Jammu developed technical snag midair and returned to New Delhi.
Then Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reached Jammu in another plane and visited the Government Medical College Jammu and enquired condition of the persons injured in Chashoti cloudburst tragedy.
As per reports emerging , on demands of Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, Rajnath Singh assured that the BRO will take over Kishtwar-Chashoti road due to increased rush of pilgrims to Shri Machail Mata Ji Shrine and also have agreed to the demand for setting up of an Army Goodwill School at Chashoti where large-scale devastation has been caused by the floods.
