CBI arrests an Assistant Labour Commissioner in a Bribery Case, Rs.1 lakh recovered

Puducherry, Aug 22: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Labour Commissioner (Central), Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, Puducherry and a private person in a bribery case.

CBI registered the instant case on 21.08.2025 against the accused Assistant Labour Commissioner, three personnel of a private company, one private person and other unknown Public Servant(s) & Private Person(s) on allegations of demand of Rs.1 lakh as illegal gratification by the accused Assistant Labour Commissioner through a private person from the private company, represented by three personnel of the company, for issuing two labour licences to the company, which has undertaken NHAI road contract in Trichy.

For the said contract, the company had applied two labour licences at the office of Assistant Labour Commissioner (Central), Puducherry. Since the company did not have the labour licence, its payment was pending with NHAI.

After registration of the casethe accused public servant and the private person (through whom the bribe was demanded) were intercepted and an amount of Rs.1 lakh was recovered from the office chamber of the accused public servant. Both the accused persons have been arrested.

The arrested accused public servant and private person were produced before the Court in Puducherry and remanded to Judicial Custody till 04.09.2025.

CBI conducted searches at the official and residential premises of the accused public servant and premises of private company at Theni in Tamil Nadu which led to recovery of incriminating documents. Search in the native place of the accused public servant in Rajasthan is under progress.
