Surat, Aug 21: Deputy superintendent of police Nikita Shiroya of the SC-ST Cell in Tapi district and a head constable have been booked for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh in connection with a case registered under the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Dowry Prohibition Act.
DSP allegedly sought the money in exchange for not harassing eight people booked in the case. Head constable Narendra Gamit, who was also booked, is the writer for Shiroya.
The duo initially demanded Rs 4 lakh to avoid arresting the complainant's relatives and friends and to spare them from harassment but after negotiations, the demand was brought down to Rs 1.5 lakh.
But, the complainant approached the ACB & during the trap operation, HC arrived in a private vehicle near L&T Colony Road to collect the money. However, on suspecting a trap, he fled in the vehicle without accepting the bribe.
