Cuttack, July 31: Orissa High Court today rejected anticipatory bail application of IAS officer Bishnupada Sethi, which he had filed in connection with the Odisha Bridge and Roof Corporation bribery case.
Sethi had applied for bail after the High Court lifted his interim protection June 20. The court had issued an interim stay on any coercive action by Central Bureau of Investigation against him, his wife and daughter, but it lifted the interim protection promoting him to apply for anticipatory bail.
It is to be noted here that Bishnupada Sethi came under the CBI scanner after Bridge and Roof Company (India) Ltd group general manager Chanchal Mukherjee, who was arrested while taking Rs 10 lakh bribe on December 8 in Bhubaneswar from a real estate company promising them work orders, took his name while being interrogated by the central agency.
The Orissa High Court decision came as a bench of Justice V. Narasingh accepted a submission by the Central Bureau of Investigation that granting pre-arrest bail would render their interrogation of the IAS officer a “fruitless exercise”.
