Extensive market checking conducted in Jammu

JAMMU, Nov 08: In view of the forthcoming Diwali festival, district administration conducted a major inspection in Jammu city here today.The inspection was conducted with the aim to check the quality and prices of various products like sweets, grocery items and electrical lamps and lights etc. Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh and Municipal Commissioner, Mandeep Kour ordered joint  flying squads under the overall supervision of ADC Jammu Dr.Piyush Singla,to conduct random inspections in different parts of Jammu district.

Inspections teams included officials from Jammu Municipal Corporation, Legal Metrology, Health and Food Safety, CAPD and traffic police. This was aimed to check the overcharging and quality related issues of various items sold by the shops and to remove the encroachments from footpaths and pavements causing inconvenience to the pedestrians and also obstruction in the free flow of traffic. Those inspected and fined included Mahajan Sweets, Kwality Sweets, Bikano Sweets/Fast food, Akhnoor Road, Pawan Ice cream, Abrol Electricals and Kaushalya electricals, Indira Chowk in Jammu north subdivision. Similarly around 70 inspections were done and 17 challans were imposed in Jammu South Sub Division. Notable shops/stores that were inspected include Vermani General store and Monika Super Market, Gole Market, Jai Hind Bakery, Gandhi Nagar, Lovely Sweets, Apsara Road, Nav Durga Sweets, Gandhi Nagar. A total of Rs 98,000 was recovered as fine for the offences like overcharging, less weighment, deceptive packaging, Sale without MRP and Manufacturer name, misuse of domestic LPG cylinders. Food and Safety Officials inspected 14 shops and around 50 kg of fungus infected khoya was recovered and destroyed from the shops. Samples of sweets, Khoya and Ice cream were also collected for further evaluation. About 300 packets of Chinese lights and LEDs used for decorative purposes were seized which were substandard and hazardous.

The Enforcement staff of JMC Traffic Police Jammu undertook a similar drive to remove the encroachments from footpaths and pavements causing inconvenience to the pedestrians and also obstruction in the free flow of vehicular traffic on the eve of festival. During the drive Jammu Municipal Corporation collected around 1 lakh rupees as permission fee to display goods within permissible area that were otherwise violating the laid down norms.  

          Various officials who conducted the exercise were  Dr Owais Ahmed, IAS, ACUT, Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Director Legal Metrology, Sanjeev, Assistant Controller Food and Safety, Abid Husain, Tehsildar Jammu, Mumtaz Ch. AD, CAPD, Circle 1, R S Jamwal Joint Commissioner (Adm) Ms. Subah Mehta Asstt. Commissioner Revenue JMC, Suneel Superintendent of Traffic Police Jammu and SDPO City Jammu. Similarly in Jammu South area officials whom conducted inspections were Amar Singh, Joint Controller Legal Metrology, SDM South Shahid Mahmood, Atam Dev Singh, Deputy Director CAPD, Asst. Commissioner Food and Safety, Muzaffar, Tehsildar Bahu, SDPO South and Health Officer JMC.
