JAMMU, July 9: Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, today chaired a review meeting at Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu to assess the rollout of the new criminal laws-Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
The meeting was attended by Range DIGs, District SSPs, and senior prosecution officers both in person and virtually.
During the meeting, the IGP called for a smooth and uniform implementation of the legal reforms and directed all districts to focus on training SHOs, Investigating Officers, and court staff. He also stressed the need for legal awareness drives and maintaining performance dashboards for regular review.
Key provisions of the new laws-such as faster investigation timelines, victim-focused justice, and use of digital tools like e-FIR, e-Summons, and e-Sakshya-were discussed.
Officers were briefed on ensuring compliance with the 60/90-day charge sheet rule, property restoration under Section 107, and the use of trial in absentia under section 356.
District-wise progress was also reviewed, with Ramban, Kishtwar, and Udhampur showing strong performance in timely charge sheet filing and Kishtwar achieving full compliance in forensic lab visits for serious crimes.
The IGP appreciated the adoption of digital tools, with Jammu, Udhampur, and Rajouri leading in the use of e-Summons, e-Sakshya, and MedLeaPR.
