Tourism Directorate conducts 2nd stakeholder consultation to reshape Tourism Policy 2020

JAMMU, June 24:  Directorate of Tourism, Jammu held the second stakeholder consultation session today to gather feedback for the revision of the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Policy 2020.

 The session, held under the chairmanship of Dr Vikas Gupta, Director Tourism, Jammu, was attended by senior department officials including Aijaz Qaiser, Joint Director Tourism and Deputy Director, Publicity.

The consultation witnessed participation from a wide range of tourism stakeholders, reflecting the sector’s diversity and potential.

Representatives from key industry bodies such as the Hotel & Restaurant Association of Katra, Chamber of Tourism Trade and Industry, Katra, Travel Trade Association of Bhaderwah and hoteliers from across the Jammu region contributed to the dialogue.

The diverse participation ensured a comprehensive discussion encompassing region-specific issues and expectations from the revised policy.

During the session, stakeholders emphasized the need for a practical, transparent and implementation-focused policy that can address on-ground challenges effectively. 

There was a strong call for alignment with national tourism policies, particularly regarding financial incentives, simplified regulatory frameworks and targeted support for industry players.

Key suggestions included strengthening inter-departmental coordination, addressing delays in ongoing projects and expanding the tourism portfolio through adventure tourism, experiential travel and winter tourism initiatives.

Stakeholders also underlined the importance of aggressive and innovative promotional campaigns to enhance the visibility of Jammu as a year-round destination.

The consultation concluded with a shared vision for a dynamic and responsive tourism roadmap, underpinned by good governance, ease of doing business and a cohesive institutional framework for policy execution and monitoring.

The Directorate of Tourism reaffirmed its commitment to incorporating stakeholder feedback in shaping a robust and future-ready tourism policy that serves both economic growth and cultural preservation.
