JAKEDA floats bids for 35 new Hydro Electric Power Projects to boost clean Energy in J&K



JAMMU, June 19: In a major step towards enhancing renewable energy generation, the Jammu & Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, has invited Request for Qualification (RFQ) proposals for the development of 35 Hydro Electric Power Projects with a cumulative generation potential of 60 MW across the Union Territory.

These projects are being undertaken under two innovative development models:

🔹 18 Hydro Projects under IPP Mode – RFQ Phase-VII JAKEDA has floated the RFQ under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) mode for 18 projects based on DPRs prepared by the Department.

These projects, ranging from 1.1 MW to 2.0 MW, are located across diverse districts including Anantnag, Kupwara, Bandipora, Poonch, Reasi, Ramban, Ganderbal, and Kishtwar. •Total Capacity: ~30 MW •Bid Submission Deadline (e-bid): 10 July 2025 •Hard Copy Submission Deadline: 11 July 2025 •Pre-development cost: ₹10 lakh/MW •Concession period: 40 years •Mode: Competitive bidding with financial bid based on upfront premium

🔹 17 Hydro Projects under Swiss Challenge Mode Additionally, tenders have been issued for 17 Hydro Electric Projects under the Swiss Challenge Method, encouraging innovative private sector participation. •Total Combined Capacity: 30.1 MW •Individual Capacity Range: 0.70 MW to 2.0 MW •Bid Submission Deadline: 11 July 2025 •Project Locations: Spread across multiple districts with proven water resource potential

🔋 Clean Energy Across 15 Districts These 35 projects span 15 districts of Jammu & Kashmir and are part of JAKEDA’s broader strategy to tap untapped hydro resources and promote distributed renewable energy infrastructure.

Each district is also being targeted for large-scale solar energy projects, making J&K a leader in decentralized and sustainable energy models. 🌱 A Green Vision for the Future The mini hydel projects represent a focused push by the Government to harness clean, indigenous energy sources, generate local employment, and reduce carbon dependency.
