Top Revenue Officer, aide held in bribery case; gold, cash worth crores seized

New Delhi, June 15; The Central Bureau of Investigation has seized large amounts of unaccounted wealth, including gold, silver, and cash, during searches linked to the arrest of a senior Indian Revenue Service officer and his accomplice in a bribery case.

The accused officer, a 2007-batch IRS officer posted as Additional Director General at the Directorate of Taxpayer Services in New Delhi was arrested for allegedly demanding a Rs 45 lakh bribe from a complainant in exchange for favourable treatment from the Income Tax Department.

According to the CBI, the officer's accomplice was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 25 lakh at the officer's Mohali residence. The officer was later arrested from his home in Vasant Kunj, Delhi.

Subsequent raids led to the recovery of approximately 3.5 kg of gold, 2 kg of silver (valued at Rs 3.5 crore) and Rs 1 crore in cash. Investigators also seized documents related to 25 bank accounts, a locker, and immovable properties across Delhi, Mumbai, and Punjab.

Both the accused were produced before a designated court and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
