MHA orders "Departmental Inquiry" against senior IPS officer just weeks ahead of retirement

Lucknow, June 15:  A departmental inquiry has been ordered against senior IPS officer Aditya Mishra, currently serving as Director General, Fire Services, Uttar Pradesh, just weeks ahead of his retirement.

The Union Home Ministry has sent a formal communication to the Uttar Pradesh Government, prompting a fresh stir within the bureaucratic and policing circles.

Aditya Mishra, a 1989-batch IPS officer from the UP cadre, was on central deputation between 2019 and early 2025. During this period, he served in several high-level roles, most notably as Chairman of the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI).

He returned to his parent cadre only four months ago and is scheduled to retire on 30 June 2025. Sources indicate that the inquiry stems from alleged irregularities during his tenure with the LPAI. The exact nature of the allegations has not been revealed.

Mishra is known for his clean image and has held several prestigious posts throughout his career.

His wife, Renuka Mishra, is also a senior IPS officer.

Departmental action against an officer of DG rank, especially at the twilight of service, is a rare occurrence. If the inquiry leads to adverse findings, it may impact post-retirement benefits or any future roles in advisory or quasi-government bodies.
