Mumbai, May 07: Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Katkar of Worli police station was suspended from the Mumbai Police force for allegedly failing to follow necessary protocol while arresting a Doctor accused of practicing as an orthopedic surgeon with a forged degree.
According to police officials, the Worli police station had received a complaint stating that the doctor was practicing medicine using forged documents, threatening patients, and had also obtained various government documents including a passport and Aadhaar card using an acquaintance’s address.
It said that the complaint was filed by one of the doctor’s former patients, who, in his statement to the police, alleged that he had been suffering from severe back pain since 2016.
Despite consulting several Doctors in the city, his condition did not improve. He later learned of the accused who advertised himself as an orthopedic surgeon and decided to seek treatment from him.
The Doctor reportedly told the complainant that his condition was minor and prescribed him painkillers along with a few exercises.
As per the FIR, the complainant’s condition worsened, prompting him to further inquire about the Doctor. He then discovered that the Doctor had been practicing using forged documents and had obtained official documents under an address where he did not reside.
A complaint was subsequently lodged, and a case was registered following which the Doctor was arrested but was later granted bail by the Dadar Metropolitan Magistrate Court on April 30.
