Jammu, May 01: “Read Your Way”: LITERARY CLUB GCW PARADE MARKS WORLD BOOK DAY In collaboration with the Department of English, the Literary Club of Govt. College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu, celebrated World Book Day, on 01 May 2025.
World Book Day is originally marked on 23rd April every year, but the celebration was delayed due the tragic circumstances that played out in the UT around the original date.
This year's World Book Day theme was "Read Your Way." The club invited two college alumnae to speak about their writing and publishing experiences on this occasion: Ms. Avantika and Ms. Mavi Sapolia.
Ms Avantika is a published author, and Ms. Maavi is an ardent literature reader with a flair for writing poetry. Both alumnae have expressed their deep love for books, and they mean to continue their journey as authors in the near future.
The chief guest of the programme was Dr Geetanjali Andotra, Principal, PSPS Govt. PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar. Principal GCW Parade, Dr Ravender Tickoo, chaired the programme convened by Dr. Ritu Magotra.
The objective of this programme was to reconnect students with books and emphasise the role and responsibility of authors in society. The chief guest commended the initiative of the Literary Club and the Department of English of GCW Parade.
The panel of guests also released the second issue of the Department of English Newsletter “The Harbinger.” In the second session of the event, students discussed their favourite books and presented their critical approaches to their readings.
The participants, chiefly Diya Chib, Anjani, Aakriti Bhat, Ojeswi Rajput, Chanpreet Kour, Suhani Gupta, Sabbit Ajas, Pooja, Sonali, and many more were felicitated by the Literary Club for sharing their reading experiences.
The event was managed by Shallu Khajuria and Aarush Sharma, students from the PG Department of English.
The faculty members of the Department of English and members of the Literary Club including Prof Renu Angurana, Dr Seema Malpotra, Dr. Aksa, Prof. Menaka Thappa, Prof. Irshad Hussain, Prof Archana Dubey, Prof. Anuradha Kalsi, Dr. Parveen, Dr Sukriti Sharma, Dr. Sumit Sharma, Dr, Mamta Sharma, Dr. Arti Sharma, Dr. Randheer Kour and Prof. Nusat Chaudhary, were present during the occasion.
Their significant contributions were instrumental in making this event a real success.
