CEO convenes All-Party Meeting on By-Polls ; NC-Cong support election on time . PDP for postponement

Srinagar, Apr 10: Chief Electoral Officer , J&K, Shantmanu today convened an all party meeting on issue of holding elections in Anantnag Parliamentary constituency and to discuss various issues related to By-Polls held in Srinagar including repoll at various polling stations affected by violence.      

The meeting was attended by representatives of PDP , BJP, Congress , NC, various state parties and independent staekeholders.

The CEO held threadbare discussions on is used of repoll at various polling stations where polling was affected by poll-related violence.

PDP's Waheed ur Rehman Parra opined that repoll can be held at such polling stations as may be deemed for by the electoral authorities. Meanwhile, representatives of National Conference Akbar Lone and Ali Mohammad Sagar , and Congress represented by Usmaan Majid and G N Monga asked the election commission objected to repoll. 

 Mr Shantmanu solicited the views of parties on demand of postponing the April 12 By-Polls in Anantnag PC in view of prevailing law and order situation. PDP representative maintained that party has already made the stand clear about it and in a press conference held this morning PDP has unequivocally reiterated that poll should be postponed in view of prevailing situation to safeguard human lives.

NC's Akbar Lone and Congress rep Usmaan Majid and G N Monga called for Anantnag PC by polls as per schedule on 12 April while Ali Mohammad Sagar asked the commission to take into account prevalent circumstances while arriving at a decisions. Representatives of several other parties also preened their views on the issue. 

Earlier today Chief Election Commissioner ECI  reviewed the situation in a meeting with CEO and administration through videoconference. 

Chief Electoral Officer is submitting a report to ECI this evening pursuant to proceedings of all party meeting to ECI based on which a decision is expected by tomorrow.
