Ganga inaugurates international conference on Renewable Energy at SMVDU

REASI, March 20: Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Parkash Ganga today inaugurated International conference on the theme ‘Renewable Energy for Sustainable Environment: Challenges and Remedies’ (ICRESE-2017) at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra.

The two day conference is being organized by Department of Energy Management; SMVDU in collaboration with Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology, GoI.

Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. N. K. Bansal, Ex Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. D. Bhddhi, Vice Chancellor Suresh Gyan Vihar University in Jaipur,  Prof N A Rahim, UMPEDA Centre, University of Malaya, Malaysia were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister stressed upon taking necessary measures to ensure energy conservation in the state. He said the conferences and academic debates will help finding the remedies to the challenges regarding energy in the contemporary world.

Ganga said that India has grown into one of the most powerful developing nations over the years and rapid advancement is seen in every sector of the economy. With regard to the increasing dependence on non-renewable energy, the Minister said that it is more important to conserve energy in order to maintain a balance so that the future generation is benefitted

He said India has, so far, focused on thermal, gas, hydro and nuclear power but now we need to add Solar Energy, Wind Energy and Biomass Energy to the priority list for energy generation. He said the state and centre government is taking various initiatives in this regard that seems to be the only hope for our future generations.

Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, stressed on the sustainability in the energy usage as an important factor for energy conservation and stressed on the need to make use of more solar energy. He termed Population explosion and change in life style as the prime factors for increased energy demands and also the prime contributors towards energy wastage.   

Prof. N. K. Bansal, Sintex Chair Professor, CEPT University and Ex Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, deliberated on the need of energy conservation. He enlightened the audience about the role and position of the country in the global scenario and highlighted the role of oil storage and refinery in the country. He also deliberated upon the futuristic goals to develop the storage techniques, reduction in the oil usage and also insisted upon organising such conferences for making people more aware about the present issues.

 Prof. D. Buddhi stressed upon the extension of the research in the field of energy as the need of the contemporary times.

Prof. N. A. Rahim stressed on taking appropriate action for energy conservation and switching over to other forms of energy including solar energy. He said the India being the oldest country on the map holds a greater responsibility for the initiative and should invest extensively in this direction.

Earlier, Dr. Sanjeev Anand, Convener of the conference in his welcome address briefed the audience about the objective of holding such a conference and its interdisciplinary nature. He said the conference is having participation of around 150 participants all across the state, country and abroad. Giving focus on the theme of the conference he stated that there are extensive Plenary, Keynote and Invited Lectures and this would be followed by Technical Sessions (both Oral and Poster).
