JAMMU, MARCH 11: State Level Marathon “Run for Fun,” is being held in Jammu City on March 19, 2017 (Sunday). Registration of participants in different categories for the Marathon has already started through different sports bodies. On spot registration would begin from March 15 at Gulshan Ground Jammu.
Arrangements for the marathon were reviewed by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed, Mr. L. Mohanti at an officers meeting held at Armed Police Headquarters here today, which was attended by arrangement committee members.
Addressing the meeting, Mr. Mohanti said that the event is being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police under its Civic Action Programme and a large number of people of different age groups is expected to participate in the Marathon. He said that people from all walks of life including the children from educational institutions of the State, sports associations, private institutions, chamber of commerce, Para-military personnel, media faternity and retired police personnel would also be participating in different categories.
ADGP further said that having different categories, the Run would start from Police Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground. Full Marathon open male category would start their Run with first flag off ceremony at 6.15 a.m. and would return after covering a distance of more than 42 kms via Sidhra Bridge Crossing. Half Marathon for men and women would have to run a distance of 21 kms, which would be flagged off from the venue at 6.30 and 6.40 a.m respectively. Similarly under 14 boys and girls category would start their run from the venue at 6.45 a.m and cover a distance of 8 and 6 kms respectively. Mr. Mohanti asked the arrangement committee members to coordinate and put in place all required arrangements including police bandubast and traffic plan for the routes of marathon. Arrangements for refreshment to the participants were also discussed in the meeting.
ADGP disclosed that prize distribution ceremony would be held on the conclusion of the rally at the venue and cash prizes distributed among the winners of different categories.
Among others, the meeting was attended IGP Armed/IR, Mr. S. A. Watali, DIsGP, Alok Kumar and Vijay Kumar, SO to ADGP, MY Kitchloo, SSsP, Nisha Nithyal, Ashok Sharma, Commandants of Armed/IRP Battalions, Sports Officer, APHQ. Jigmeet Lhundup, Dy SP, Junaid Wali and other police sports persons.
