Samba, April 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Weightlifting Association has inaugurated training center at Smart Shishu Nikatan Higher Secondary rgrSchool in Samba today in order to promote sports from the grass route level.
With te forts of J&K Weightlifting Association, These centers are sponsored by Indian Weightlifting Association with an aim to cultivate a culture of fitness and athleticism among the youth, promoting weightlifting as a preferred sport. Furnished with cutting-edge equipment graciously provided by the Indian Weightlifting Federation, the facilities cater to both boys and girls.
The array includes barbel sets(190kg),Prototype for beginners, squat stands, Jerk Stands and benches(All products belong to Nelco Company) ensuring aspiring weightlifters in Samba to have the tools needed for the development of their skills.
The inauguration ceremony, overseen by Jangveer Singh, Principal of Smart Shishu Nikatan Higher Secondary School, Samba & secretary J&K Weightlifting Association, Samba District,the presence of esteemed figures like Ashok Singh(Retired Divisional Sports Officer,Jammu)and Harbhajan Singh(President,J&K Weightlifting Association), Yudhvir Singh(General Secretary J&K WeightliftingAssociation), Captain Kulbir Singh(President,Samba District Weightlifting Association), Abhishek (Weightlifting Coach) besides players and parents.
Radha Rani, a local resident, lauded the initiative, highlighting its potential to empower Samba's youth to excel at local, regional, and national levels. Prior to this, similar facilities were established in Reasi, ensuring equitable opportunities for weightlifters across districts. The youth of Samba expressed gratitude to the Indian Weightlifting Federation, J&K Weightlifting Association, and District Samba Weightlifting Association, pledging to uphold the sport's integrity and strive for excellence on national and international stages.
