Directorate of Ayush organizes meet on “Developing opportunities in exploring entrepreneurship in Medicinal plants Sector”

Jammu, March 22: Directorate of Ayush, J&K/ J&K Medicinal Plants Board in collaboration with Department of Botany University of Jammu organized a one-day meet titled “Developing opportunities in exploring entrepreneurship in Medicinal plants Sector”.

Dr. Mohan Singh, Director Ayush J&K/CEO J&K Medicinal Plants Board, was the chief guest on the occasion. The skill development programme was attended by 60 Research Scholars of University of Jammu and Medical officers of District Jammu and Samba. Professor Seema Langar Dean Faculty of Life Sciences attended the program as Guest of Honour.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Mohan Singh, Director Ayush J&K/CEO J&K Medicinal Plants Board,, appreciated the efforts of Department of Botany for conducting this program in the benefit of developing employment opportunities in Medicinal Plants Sector in convergence with Directorate of Ayush, J&K.

Entrepreneurs in the medicinal plants sector should consider sustainability practices, ethical sourcing, and staying updated with scientific advancements & market trends.

He stressed on collaboration with experts from Botany, Directorate of Ayush, J&K J&K Medicinal Plants Board Indira Chowk, Jammu Pharmacology, Agriculture, and Business Management which can further enhance the success and impact of entrepreneurial ventures in this field.

He further said that starting a business in cultivating medicinal plants can be lucrative and the focus should be on cultivating rare or high-demand medicinal plants, catering to Herbal medicine companies or pharmaceutical companies.

He stressed on the need of developing Forward and Backward linkages in medicinal plants sector for which J&K Medicinal Plants Board will provide every assistance.

Professor Seema Langar in her address stressed on innovative value addition while catering demand of the herbal Industry and consumers. She stressed on species specific start ups in medicinal plants sector.

Professor Susheel Verma Head of the Department Botany provided technical details on cultivation practices of Medicinal Plants in sub-tropical areas. He provided details on the demand of sub-tropical medicinal plants species which can be beneficial in business modules.

Expert lectures were delievered by Dr. Punit Choudhary, Chief Scientist and Head, KVK Jammu, Dr Sanjay Khajuria Chief Scientist and Head, KVK Samba, Dr Namrata Sharma Professor Department of Botany and Dr Aftab Iqbal Mir Nodal Officer Herbal Garens Jammu Division.

Dr Wahid Ul Hassan, Technical Officer, J&K Medicinal Board J& K, gave a brief description and outline of the training Programme. He also explained the various projects, programmes of J&K Medicinal Plant Board of J&K for farmers/Traders/Entrepruners.

Earlier Dr Suresh Sharma Deputy Director Ayush Jammu welcomed the esteemed guests. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Raina Assistant Director, Directorate of Ayush J&K, Dr Vandna Dogra Medical Superintendant Govt Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu, Dr Renu Dass District Nodal Officer Ayush Samba among others participated in the event.
