International Workshop on Poetry  inaugurated  at Government College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu

JAMMU, Mar 04: A week-long International Workshop on Poetry was inaugurated today at Government College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu which is being organised through the Research Hub (Music, Fine Arts and Languages) of the college.

The idea germinated from the observance of International Mother Language Day (February 21). In a similar vein, the workshop aims to be a celebration of the poetry of regional languages of Jammu and Kashmir including Dogri, Hindi, Urdu, Gojri, Punjabi, Pahadi and extending to Sanskrit, Marathi, Malayalam, Gujarati and English. Here poets, researchers, translators and academicians will present their life experiences in the context of creativity and poetry. Dr. Lalit Magotra and Shri D.K. Vaid (Darshan Darshi) graced the inaugural day of the workshop as chief guests, who were joined by Dr S.P. Sarswat, Principal P.S.P.S. Govt. College for Women, Gandhinagar, Dr. Avinash Kumar Gupta, Associate Professor, GCW Parade and Dr. Priya Nair, poet and resource person.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Ritu Magotra (HoD English) which was followed by the singing of Saraswati Vandana and Basant Raag Gayan by the students of the music department under the guidance of Dr Jasmeet Kour (HoD Music). Dr. S.P. Saraswat, the guiding force behind the programme, congratulated the organisers for their initiatives. Dr. Ritu Magotra, the overall convener, Dr. Sukriti Sharma, convener, Dr. Mamta Sharma, co-convener, and the coordinators Dr. Jaiwardhan, Prof. Aarti and Dr. Randheer Kour have contributed significantly to organise this international event.

The workshop has become possible through the untiring efforts of the organising secretaries: Prof. Anuradha Kalsi, Prof. Pooja, Dr. Gurpreet Kour, Prof. Gurvinder Kour, Dr. Ramesh Chander, Dr Showkat, Dr Anu, and Dr Bilquees. The advisory committee of the workshop includes the external and internal members- Professor Renu Angurana, Dr Jasmeet Kour, Dr Archana Dubey, Dr Pritam Singh from Jammu University, Dr Liaqat Jafri and Dr Tarsem from Government College for Women Gandhinagar. The workshop schedule consists of fourteen sessions some of which shall be conducted online, and will be featuring speakers like Manzoor Aijaz, Virginia (USA), Amarjit Chandan, London (UK), David Reese, Exeter (UK), and offline sessions will be conducted by Dr. Priya Nayar, Dr. Pushpinder Syal, Prof. Kamaljit Chaudhary, Dr Javed Rahi, Swami Antar Neerav, Mrs. Deep Inder, Dr. Amit Ranjan, Shri Sarabjit Garcha, Dr Ayaz Rasool Nazki and Dr. Irfan Arif. Students and researchers from different colleges and universities are participating in the workshop. Besides, literature enthusiasts have also expressed their eagerness to participate in this workshop.
