New Delhi, Feb 08: The Centre government on Wednesday said that no specific proposal of providing identity certificate to West Pakistan refugees was under consideration of Jammu and Kashmir government.
In written replies to questions asked by Amar Singh and Majeed Memon in Rajya Sabha, Ministers of Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said that Jammu and Kashmir government has reported that there is no proposal at present to grant domicile certificate.
Focusing on point that West Pakistan refugees settled in Jammu and Kashmir are Indian citizens, Ahir made a big statement that J&K government has reported that "there is no such proposal at present under consideration of the state government for the West Pakistan refugees".
Ahir said unlike Displaced Persons of Chhamb of 1947, West Pakistan refugees have not been granted state subject status.
Ahir said “As such, they do not participate in the state Assembly elections and are not entitled to any employment under the state government.”
