LMD serves notice to Coca-Cola in Jammu


SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 06:- Prompted by a complaint lodged by a senior citizen of Srinagar city against a distributor of soft drinks for selling him underweight 300ml Coca-cola tins, the Legal Metrology Department(LMD) served a notice to the factory Manager, Hindustan Coca-Cola, Jammu for ascertaining the reasons of short-filling of Coca-Cola tins.

An expert team from the company visited the office and during the investigation it was found that the distributor has not maintained the storage conditions for stocking the product and as a result the aerated cold drinks had lost the gas content. The distributor was held responsible for supplying defective 300ml cold drinks to the consumer and a penal sum of Rs 40,000 was slapped on him.

          In another case, Rs 25000 fine was imposed on a leading multinational company (MNC) for manufacturing and marketing of tile packages violating Legal Metrology Laws. According to Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Department Baramulla, a team of officials of the concerned Department led by inspector LMD today conducted a market inspection in the district during it found said tile company violating the LMD laws, following which an investigation was launched and the deceptive packages were seized by Inspector Legal Metrology Sopore for evidence purpose.   The matter was taken up with concerned company and the company, in their response, admitted the lapse and applied for compounding of the offence.
