Technical sessions play very important role for future planning of Panchayats to achieve sustainable goals: Mandeep Kaur

JAMMU, DECEMBER 05: The Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj today organised one day UT level workshop on Panchayat Development Index, (PDI) at Teacher Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar here.

The objective of the workshop was to enhance the Capacity Building and Training of Frontline workers of line departments, field functionaries and other related stakeholders. Commissioner Secretary, Rural Development Department & Panchayati Raj, Mandeep Kaur was chief guest on the occasion.

Secretary RDD, Tariq Ahmad Zargar, Director Panchayati Raj, Mohammad Mumtaz Ali, Director RDD, Kashmir, Shabir Hussain Bhat, Director Rural Sanitation, Charandeep Singh, CEO IWMP, Bharat Bhushan, Additional Secretaries RDD, Wasim Raja, Sanjay Bhat besides ADDCs, ACDs, ACPs, officers and officials of RDD and line departments were also present during the workshop.

Consultant, Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Dr Tauqueer Khan, briefed about preparation of Panchayat Development Plan for 2024-25 and other concepts of PDI through PPP mode. Deputy Director, NIC MoPR, Bijendra Kumar Suman, presented an overview on demonstration of PDI Portal.

The MoPR and Technical team also conducted a group exercise on handholding of PDI Portal and eGS Portal besides, a question answer session was also held to clear doubts of participants/stakeholders.

In her address, Commissioner Secretary, gave key note address on significance of PDI in attaining SDGs in rural areas besides role of line departments in evidence based planning through PDI. She said the PDI contains data of 577 indicators spread across 9 sectors which has to be filled by each Panchayat on monthly basis.

There are 4291 Panchayats in J&K, therefore, it is a voluminous and rigorous exercise and has to be carried out on monthly basis after proper scrutiny and cross checks, she added.

Mandeep Kaur said that the technical sessions play very important role for future planning of Panchayats to achieve sustainable goals.

Commissioner Secretary said that the MoPR is committed to conduct such workshops and seek feedback report from UT and State level functionaries.

She stressed on concerned authorities to complete whole PDI exercise in stipulated time frame. Tariq Zargar, briefed about different aspects of the workshop and presented mementoes to the dignitaries/participants. J
