LMD conducts surprise inspection, imposes fine worth Rs 30300

SAMBA, JANUARY 14 - A team of Legal Metrology Department comprising Assistant Controller Ajay Verma and Inspector Narinder Makhnotra conducted inspection of various business establishments at Diani, Samba, Vijaypur, Bari Brahmana and adjoining areas and booked the defaulters.

The team inspected various business establishments including petrol pumps, general store, sweet shops, Karyana shops and provisional stores for their compliance with regard to different provisions of J&K Standard of Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and Packages Commodities Rules. A penalty of Rs 30300 was imposed on the erring trader’s for violation of the prescribed norms.         

The department booked a Mumbai based Company  at Bari Brahmana for selling the  aluminum foil  without mandatory declaration as required under Packages Commodities  rules and declaring misleading information on the Packages. After going through the correspondence with the Company Representative and on the assurance of the Company that it won't repeat the same fault in future, the case was compounded by imposing the penalty of Rs 20,000.       

Besides this, the Department directed all the traders to use only those Weights and Measures and weighing and Measuring Instruments for business transactions which have been duly verified and authenticated by the Legal Metrology Department and ensure that  Maximum Retail Price (MRP),Date of packing(PKD), Net Contents and complete address of the Manufacturer/Packer  and Customer care Number  have been declared on the Commodities to be sold in package form as per the Legal Metrology packages commodities Rules .

The Department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from using unfair trade and anti Consumers practices.
