SC Refuses Urgent Hearing On Plea Seeking Postponement Of Budget

New Delhi Jan 06: The  Supreme Court today refused an urgent hearing on a plea seeking the postponement of Union Budget for 2017-18 till April.

The public suit came in action between the government and the Opposition over the dates for presentation of Union Budget, just ahead of the commencement of assembly elections in five states between February 4 and March 8.

The petitioner had contended that Presenting the budget would violate the Model Code of Conduct, which has come into force with the announcement of the election schedule.

A bench of Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, Justice NV Ramana and Justice DY Chandrachud said that they would decide the issue when it comes in its normal course.
