LA panel for strictly adhering to norms for purchase of drugs in J&K


JAMMU, Nov 28: The Committee on Public Accounts (PAC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Monday directed the authorities of Health and Medical Education to strictly adhere to the prescribed norms while purchasing drugs and suggested free medicines in all health institutions of the State. 

The Committee, which met here under the chairmanship of MLA, Mian Altaf Ahmad discussed the observations made by the Comptroller and Audit General (CAG) in its report regarding the Health and Medical Education Department.

The members of the Committee including Choudhary Sukhnandan Kumar, Khursheed Alam and Qaiser Jamshed Lone emphasized upon the concerned authorities to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to check the menace of substandard drugs.

The Committee also sought information about the Audit Paras pertaining to the H&ME department pointed out by the CAG regarding purchase of substandard drugs from the different agencies.         

Detailed discussions were held on various observations of the CAG’s Audit Paras and various Paras and Sub Paras were dropped after satisfactory reply by the Secretary, Health and Medical Education, M K Bhandari on behalf of the Department.

Accountant General, Audit, H Abbas, Directors of Health Kashmir and Jammu, Principals of GMC Srinagar and Jammu, Principal Government Dental College Jammu, Director Family Welfare, Director Finance H&ME, Managing Director JKMSCL and other officers of Health and Medical Education department besides senior officers of Assembly Secretariat were also present in the meeting.
