Kavinder, Zulfkar flag-off marathon in Jammu

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 20: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Mr Kavinder Gupta and Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali flagged off a marathon “Run for peace, Run for unity,” here at Satwari Chowk on Sunday.

The marathon that culminated at Moulana Azad Memorial Stadium saw participation of students from various schools, and colleges.

Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said that aim of participating in the marathon should not be winning or losing, but to develop sportsmanship. Considering the fact that the participants in the marathon are mostly students, the Speaker said, it is they who will in future work for the betterment of the nation. He said such type of programmes should be organized in future also.

Zulfkar, while appreciating the participants for attending the run, said that normally people run for fun, however, if with fun, there is a noble theme that unites our country, and countrymen, that makes it all more interesting.

Speaking about sportsmanship culture, the Minister recalled Rio Olympics, where an American runner stopped to help fallen athlete at the Rio Olympics to demonstrate real spirit of the sports. He said it is not always about winning or losing, but about making friends for life.

Zulfkar Ali said that people in developed countries normally tend to organize theme oriented marathons. He said besides, having some time for fun, the aim of these marathons is to get likeminded people together. He said nations do not become great till peoples’ mindset is not changed, and by holding such kind of programmes, it gives people an opportunity to come together and help in inculcating such sports spirit among themselves.

MLA Aijaz Ahmed and MLC Surinder Choudhary also attended the function.

Later, the Minister distributed the prizes among the winning participants Parvinder Singh, Shamshad, and Dalbir Singh, who stood first, second, and third respectively.
