A&SH Minister instructs strict checking of poultry birds to prevent bird flu in j&K


 

 

 

SRINAGAR, Oct  25:  Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli, has directed the authorities to depute a team of doctors to Lakhnapur entry check post to avoid entry of any infected bird in the State.

On the directions of the Minister, the team will ensure regular checking of stock of poultry birds coming from other states to prevent bird flu spread in the State.

Kohli directed the concerned to prepare action plan for upgradation and modernization of existing poultry hatcheries   for the benefits of the poultry rearers.

The Minister was speaking at a meeting held here to review the status of poultry sector.

He said the Government would also encourage poultry rearers to set up farms on modern lines and in this regard the Animal Husbandry Department would provide requisite technical support and financial assistance.

He said that setting up of these farms will not only benefit the poultry rearers, but will also generate employment opportunities for the unemployed youth also.

Mr. Kohli said that main objective of the Government is to promote poultry rearing so as to cater to the local demand and thus reduce dependence on its import.
