Kohli asks Authorities to put  appropriate measures to prevent Bird Flue in J&K


SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 23 – Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry & Fisheries, Er Abdul Gani Kohli today convened a meeting of senior officers at Sheep Breeding Farm Dachigam near here today to review the situation with regard to Bird Flue in Jammu and Kashmir.

During the course of meeting, the Minister took detailed review of the situation and discussed the issue with the officers. He directed the concerned officers to keep close watch on the situation, especially at the entry point of the Kashmir Valley at Lower Munda to avoid entry of any infected bird. It was decided in the meeting that a team of doctors will camp at Lower Munda to ensure regular checking of stock of poultry birds coming from other states. He also called for keeping a close vigil on the water bodies in Kashmir Valley where migratory birds frequently visit.

 The officers informed the Minister that the department has taken all preventive measures to meet any such situation in the Valley. They further informed that till date no such case has been detected across the Valley, however, necessary measures have been put in place to avoid any possible entry of infected poultry bird in the Valley. They told that there is no such threat of Bird Flue in the Valley and people should not pay any heed to any rumors.

Later, the Minister also inspected the Fishery Farm and took stock of the activities of the farm. He obtained feedback about the production and quality of fishes in the farm. He directed the functionaries to take all possible measures to enhance the production of quality fish which is famous not only in Valley but in other parts of the country.

Among those present in the meeting included, Directors of Animal/Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, besides other officers of the departments.
