JKSRTC to upgrade public transport service

SRINAGR, Sep 27: Minister of State for Transport, Sunil Kumar Sharma, today chaired 75th Board of Directors meeting of J&K SRTC to review its overall functioning.

The meeting discussed various issues faced by the corporation and steps needed to be taken to upgrade the public transport services across the state.

The meeting was apprised about project submitted by Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ARSUT) to upgrade the public transport services of the corporation.

Seeking details, the Minister was informed ARSUT is an apex coordinating body working under the aegis of Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways to provide efficient, economic, safe and reliable public transport facility in urban, hilly and rural areas across the country.

The Minister stressed on the need to adopt innovative ideas for improving and streamlining functioning of the Corporation. He said the Corporation in addition of providing better and efficient transport facilities to the public should also bring efficiency and transparency in its working.

He also said the Corporation has to work hard and find ways to improve revenue generating capacity.

Financial Commissioner Planning & Development and Monitoring, B B Vyas,   Commissioner Secretary Transport, Bipul Pathak, Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development Hridesh Kumar, Commissioner Secretary Finance NK Choudhary, Commissioner Secretary PW (R&B) Rohit Kansal , Managing Director J&K SRTC, G.A Sofi, Chief Engineer (R&B), Chief Engineer MED Kashmir and various officers from Finance, R&B, Transport Department were present in the meeting.
