Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gull visits National Kayaking & Canoeing camp at WSC, Dal Lake

SRINAGAR, MARCH 29: Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull today visited the Water Sports Centre (WSC) of J&K Sports Council (JKSC) at Nehru Park, Dal Lake here to monitor the progress of the month-long National Coaching Camp and take stock of the facilities being provided to participants.
The month-long National Coaching Camp as a prelude to Asian Olympic Qualifiers to be held in Pattaya, Thailand is underway at the Water Sports Centre (WSC) of J&K Sports Council at Nehru Park, Dal Lake here.
The Government of India has specially allotted the camp to J&K Water Sports Centre keeping in view the state of art facilities placed at the newly laid infrastructure at Nehru Park, Dal Lake.
During the visit, the Secretary, J&K Sports Council interacted with the participants and also distributed Team Kits and Track Suits among them. While speaking on the occasion she asked all the participants to be ambassadors for J&K and spread the positive word with fellow sports fraternity across the country.
The Secretary also informed the gathering that the Water Sports Centre is being augmented with more standard facilities in some time to bring it at par with other International facilities across the globe.
As many as 24 players from different States and UTs of the country are attending the camp under the watchful eyes of Coach duo of Piyush and Nazish.
Head Water Sports Centre J&K, Bilquis Mir, who is also National Chief Coach for Women was assigned the role of coordinating all logistics including boarding and lodging security, medical and other related matters as well as to oversee aspects of coaching including planning, conduct and assessment etc.
Participants of the camp are elated at the training facilities being provided in the camp. One of the participants Susheela Chanu who is from Manipur was all praises for the camp facilities and desired more and more National camps should be allotted  to Water Sports Centre J&K in future which houses best facilities.
Another participant, Nocha Singh who has been training in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh previously said that he is visiting Kashmir for the first time and is spellbound by both scenic beauty and facilities of the Water Sports Centre, J&K.
Similar views expressed by Ajat Shatru Sharma who desired for frequent National Camps in Srinagar Water Sports. Both Nocha Singh and Ajat Shatru who are internationally acclaimed Kayaking athletes said, Water Sports Centre, Srinagar can be easily clubbed with other international sports facilities of the world.
Ms Anjali Bashishth and Ph. Soniya Devi International Canoeing players opines that upgraded facilities in centre make it a unique facility in the country which will go a long way in producing more and more water sports athletes not only in the country but Jammu and Kashmir as well.
Secretary, J&K Sports Council was also accompanied by Dr. Zaffar Iqbal Chief Accounts Officer J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Ara, Divisional Sports Officer (K) and other officials during the visit.
