362 works sanctioned under PMGSY for Phase 10:Veeri

JAMMU, Sep 07: The Pardhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) envisages providing new road connectivity to 518 habitations in Jammu by constructing 2639.89 km of road length including upgradation of existing roads and bridges.

This was informed by the Minister for Public Works & Parliamentary Affairs, A. R. Veeri while chairing a meeting to review the progress under PMGSY and of Mechanical Engineering Department.

The meeting was informed that 362 works have been taken up under the PMGSY Bharat Nirman Phase X in Jammu region for which Rs. 1997.77 crores was sanctioned to connect 518 habitations.

It was further given out that in Phase IX, out of 1033 sanctioned packages, 545 were completed connecting 1143 habitations with an expenditure of Rs. 1984.04 crore.

Veeri impressed upon the officers to expedite the ongoing projects under PMGSY so that the same would be completed within stipulated time frame

Expressing concern over delays in land acquisition and Land Compensation cases which hampers the pace of project implementation, Veeri said that the matter would be taken up at the concerned  quarters so that the ongoing projects under PMGSY would be completed in a time bound manner. He also called for better synergy between the concerned departments to ensure bottlenecks in execution of projects are removed in time.

The Minister said that he will monitor the pace of work and review it in every two month adding that the government is according top priority to enhancing road connectivity  in the state with special focus on rural areas .

Veeri stressed upon the functionaries of PMGSY, Mechanical Engineering Department and store procurement department to work with utmost zeal, dedication and close coordination for timely completion of the works. Stress was also laid on the need for regular maintenance of rural roads along with connecting new pockets.
