Kathua: November 8.Today,under the guidance and overall supervision of SSP Kathua Dr. Shailendra Mishra,IPS, Jammu and Kashmir Police organized "Kathua Half Marathon",one of its kind in Jammu and Kashmir with a strong message of Run for Health;Stay away from Drugs.It evoked an overwhelming response from the people of all walks of life.
More than 2000 participants from all walks of the life lined up at Sports Stadium Kathua today in early morning.
The 21.1 km run was flagged off by Sh. Mukesh Singh IPS, IGP,Jammu Zone and other runs were flagged off by Sh Vivek Gupta IPS , DIG JSK/RP range.
It was the very 1st edition of the Kathua Half Marathon organized by Distt. Police which was based on International Standards as RFID Chips,sensors and surveillance drones were used to track the runners.
In all,there were 04 categories i.e. 21 Kms, 10 Kms for visual competitive and 05 Kms, 02 Kms for non-competitive (Run for Fun).
More than 2000 participants including 108 females took part in the Marathon in 04 different categories. The interesting episode of the marathon was that out of 158 participants of 21 Kms category, 151 finished it in time, whereas 317 made it clear in 10 Kms category out of 353. It is pertinent to mention here that almost all the participants of 05 Kms and 02 Kms also finished the Marathon.
The winner of 21 Kms category was Sunil Choudhary whereas 1st and 2nd runner-ups were Hans Raj and Balvinder Singh respectively. In 10 Kms category,the 1st position holder was Kulbir Singh whereas 1st and 2nd runner-ups were Balbir Kumar and Pinkay Kumar respectively.
The cultural programme was also the part of this mega event, which was started early in the morning with warm-up session by Zumba Aerobics followed by entertainment programmes by different dance and cultural groups including local/non local artists.
After the completion of the event, an impressive prize distribution function was held. The presentation ceremony was graced by the Director-General of Police J&K, Shri Dilbag Singh IPS, Shri Mukesh Singh IPS IGP, Shri Vivek Gupta IPS, DIG, Shri O.P. Bhagat KAS,DC Kathua, Shri.Ramnish Gupta,JKPS,Addl SP alongwith other dignitaries.
The winners of different events were honoured with cash prizes and medals by DGP, J&K and other officers in which Kulbir Singh 1st in 10 km category was presented with the cash prize of Rs.15,000/-, Balbir Kumar got 2nd prize with cash of Rs.10,000/-, Pinkay Kumar got 3rd prize with cash of Rs.5,000/-.
Sunil Choudhary 1st in Half Marathon(21Kms)was awarded a cash prize of Rs.25,000/-, Hans Raj got 2nd position was presented a cash prize of Rs.20,000/- and Balvinder Singh got 3rd position was presented a cash prize of Rs.10,000/-.
In addition, medals alongwith cash prize were also distributed among participants (Men / Women) who completed 10 Kms and 21 Kms category.
