MD Kashmir Power Discom reviews implementation of Smart Metering Project in Srinagar city


 
Srinagar, May 28:Managing Director, KPDCL convened the meeting today on May 28, 2020 to review the progress of Smart Meter Installation in Srinagar City. The project sanctioned under PMDP to the tune of Rs. 126 Crores, envisages installation of 1 lac Smart Meters each in Srinagar and Jammu Cities out of which currently work for installation of 35,500 meters (in Srinagar City) have been awarded to TKC (Turn Key Contractor) M/S Techno Electric Engg., a Kolkata based technology firm. The implementation of the project will be a great milestone in metering and billing of the City with features of remote meter reading, remote monitoring and control of consumer load. The control center of the Smart Metering Project is proposed at Data Center, Power Complex, Bemina. The implementation of the project is expected to reduce the energy losses to a great extent. The PIA (Project Implementing Agency) of the Project RECPDCL, has been  asked to immediately restart the survey of consumers which was expected to be completed by May, 2020 but got delayed due to COVID-19 Outbreak. The TKC reported that the survey of 5,000 consumers has already been completed and survey of rest of the consumers will be started soon and will be completed by August 2020. The supply of the meters is expected to start from July, 2020. The Managing Director directed the TKC to restart the survey immediately by following the Covid-19 protocol. The Software Design Specifications(SRS) of the Smart Metering Solution which is currently being finalized jointly by the Engineers of KPDCL, Techno Electric and RECPDCL, is nearing completion and will be ready for deployment after installation of the servers and other hardware items at Data Center, Bemina. A proof of concept (POC) which demonstrates the working of the Smart Meter will be conducted by the TKC by the end of July. The meeting was attended by chief Engineer Distribution Mr Ajaz Dar, Nodal officer Smart Metering Wali Mohammad Mir, SE Circle-1 Srinagar, sheikh Hilal Ahmed of KPDCL and representatives of RECPDCL and Techno Electric Engg., India.
