The scenic destination of the Drass Valley, near Tiger Hill in Jammu & Kashmir was the spot at which the bitter armed conflict between India and Pakistan took place between May and July 1999, popularly known as the Kargil war. July 4 marks the day on which the Indian army recaptured the Kargil sector and other areas along the LoC from Pakistan.
