Open heart surgeries commence at Super Specialty Hospital Katra

KAKRYAL, JUNE 16 - Several decisions were taken for further expanding and upgrading the diagnostic and treatment facilities being provided at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal, at the 23rd meeting of the Governing Body of the Hospital held here.

Dr. S. S. Bloeria, Member of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Body of the Hospital, chaired the meeting in which Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Founder Chairman of Narayana Health, also participated.

B. B. Vyas, ex-CEO of the Shrine Board; Mr. Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; and Dr. S. P. Singh, CEO, NVDSHPL, all Members of the Governing Body also participated in the meeting. Besides, Dr. (Brig) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer, SMVDNSH, Dr. Emmanuel Rupert, Chief of Medical Services, NH Group; and several other concerned officers participated in the meeting.

The Governing Body took a detailed review of the to-date status of the OPD and IPD patients treated, major surgeries performed and number of diagnostic tests conducted at this Hospital since its formal inauguration on 19th April 2016. Brig. Harjai informed that since the commencement of services on 8th April 2016, the Hospital has examined 8445 outpatients and performed more than 100 surgeries. The Governing Body was informed that many of the surgeries performed in the Hospital were extremely critical and an achievement in itself.

The Neurosurgeon of the Hospital has performed surgeries like Brain Tumour removal, Brain Trauma Surgeries and Spinal Cord Surgeries including Spine Cage Placement. The Gastroenterologist surgeon has performed Laparoscopic Gall bladder and Hernia Surgeries, removal of Rectal and Colon Tumours, CBD stones and biliary stricture and stapled haemorrhoidectomy for piles. The Orthopaedic Surgeon has performed a number of knee replacement and hip replacement surgeries. Adult and Paediatric trauma cases were also successfully handled. In Oncosurgery the Hospital has performed surgeries for Breast Cancer, Colon Cancer, Cancer of the Cervix and the Ovary; all patients have recovered well and are on adjuvant treatment.

It was also informed that a number of pilgrims who required medical intervention during performing pilgrimage were also provided free of cost medical care, which included major surgeries.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bloeria and Dr. Shetty expressed satisfaction on the progress registered by the Hospital in the initial two months of its functioning and congratulated the consultants and doctors for this achievement.

 During his visit to the Hospital, Dr. Shetty took a detailed review of the arrangements made for the conduct of open heart surgeries which commenced at this hospital on 7th June 2016. He also interacted with the Consultants and Staff and reiterated his commitment of providing the best possible diagnostic and treatment facilities at the Hospital for high quality patient care.         

Earlier, Dr. (Brig) Harjai made a presentation about the updates and functioning of the hospital.
