Govt to launch ‘Back to Municipal Ward’ Public Outreach Programme soon:DivCom Kmr


 

SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 03: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan today convened a marathon meeting to review the issues of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).

The meeting was attended by District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal, Commissioner, SMC, Additional Commissioner, Kashmir, Director Education, Director Health Services, Kashmir, Chief Engineers of R&B & MED, Director Industries, VC SDA, Joint Commissioner SMC, CMO Health Services, Deputy Directors of Food, Social Welfare & Fire & Emergency Services, Superintending Engineers of UEED, R&B, PHE, PDD.

The Div Comm directed the concerned officers to gear up men for conducting ‘Back to Municipal Ward’ public outreach programme on the analogy of Back to Village in order to review developmental needs, essential services in the Srinagar city.

He directed DDC, Srinagar, to  make a comprehensive administrative plan and depute officers for the smooth conduct of the programme in all  the 74 wards of  the city.

He said that the constituted teams shall evaluate sanitation, electricity issues, condition of lanes and by-lanes.  He said that the teams should identify critical gaps in each ward and shall submit a ward-wise report before the office of District Development Commissioner.

The SMC officials were directed to install dewatering pumps in low-lying areas of the city to avoid inundation.

The Div Comm directed the SMC officials to dovetail the municipal activities with Smart City Project in consultation with DDC Srinagar. He directed the concerned officers to ensure tax collection from parking slots, street vendors and shopkeepers and to penalize municipal law and building permission violators. He also directed the PDD to identify dark areas in all the municipal wards and also install high mast street lights across the City, besides repairing defunct street lights. The Div Comm also directed the concerned to ensure blanket ban on Single Use of Plastic.

Meanwhile, the DDC informed the meeting that under Smart City Project (SCP) Jehlum water Front Project is underway. He said that 50% work is completed at an estimated cost of Rs 4.88 crores. He said that face-lifting of historical Mahraj Gung market is being explored and underground ducting is being undertaken.

He said that 90 green spaces are being explored under Jahangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover.

Under Smart Utility Marketing Project, Rs 26 Crores have been earmarked for underground ducting for city nerve centre, Lal Chowk, besides 25 Smart Schools, Seven Smart Hospitals, and Five Smart vending Zones are also under consideration.

He informed under AMRUT, SMC installed 33 Intelligent Traffic Lights (ITL) at 33 junctions across Srinagar city.

The SMC officials informed the meeting that 548 kms long storm drain was constructed across the city.
