SRINAGAR, MAY 12: The State Government has decided to revisit the Jammu & Kashmir Industrial Policy-2016 which was approved by the State Administrative Council on 15 March 2016 during the Governor’s rule.

This was announced by the Minister for Education and State Government Spokesman, Mr Naeem Akhtar here today.

“The government has decided to revisit the Industrial Policy-2016 to make it more comprehensive, broad-based and inclusive without compromising the JK’s special position,” Akhtar told media-persons.

The Minister said J&K has many important sectors like horticulture, medicinal plants and other areas that need to be classified as an industry to boost the growth of such key sectors. “As a democratically elected Government we have to take care of the aspirations of a larger section of the people and stakeholders within the State. With this objective in mind, the Government has asked the Industries & Commerce Department to resubmit the Policy to the State Cabinet for its holistic review,” he said and added that the stakeholders would be also consulted before finalizing the policy.

He said the main objective of the Industrial Policy will be to rejuvenate the industrial sector in the State that will not only provide new jobs but take the state to the next level of economic development through expanded industrial activity.
