Honorary Doctorate conferred on Azim Premji by University of Mysore ;Justice B A Khan seeks Azim Premji Foundation’s assistance for promotion of elementary education in the State

SRINAGAR, MARCH 23- Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir State Accountability Commission, Justice B. A. Khan has appealed Chairman Wipro Technologies, Azim Premji to extend activities of  his foundation to support elementary education in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

After presenting Honorary Doctorate Degree conferred on Azim Premji by University of Mysore, Justice B A Khan said “over 500 schools have been washed away due to frequent natural disasters in past in the State”.

Pitching for alternate arrangements for education of children in conflict areas of Kashmir where children have been deprived of schooling for months together for no fault of theirs due to disturbed conditions, Justice Khan advocated the need to focus on education of such children by deploying various means including Distance Education.

He cautioned that the children in conflict areas are vulnerable to outside forces and there is also a possibility of their getting involved in militancy related activities.

Describing Azim Premji as Philanthropist spending major part of his wealth in improving education in rural, disadvantaged and marginalized sections, Justice Khan requested him to extend such activities in the State of Jammu and Kashmir as well and help in educating such children, as two and a half decade long strive has negatively impacted the elementary education sector in the State.

Justice Khan also spoke extensively on the need to protect and safeguard the valuable right of decent and debate guaranteed by the Constitution. Freedom of speech and decent are the blood line of our democracy and curbs on this would impact the basic structure of our Constitution, he added.

He said there was a very strong feeling that the battle of ideas so jealously guarded by our Constitution could be done away with by any unilateral imposition of ideologies and dogmas.
