JK Vigilance books ex-SDPO, SHO Arnas

JAMMU, March 01: The State Vigilance Organization today registered a case under various provisions of anti-corruption laws against Zubeer Mirza, DySP the then SDPO Arnas and Ranjeet Singh, the then SHO Arnas on the basis of verification conducted into the allegations of wrongful confinement of complainant Gopal Singh and his family members on frivolous and stage managed charges and subsequent release after demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 50000 and Rs 70000 respectively.
An official press release issued by the Vigilance Organization said the complainant was taken into custody from his residence by the SHO on the basis of allegations that the marriage of his son with Renu Devi was illegal as she was pregnant prior to her formal marriage with his son.The verifications revealed that the complainant along with daughter-in-law Reenu Devi and her father were produced before SDPO Arnas Zubeer Mirza by SHO Arnas Ranjeet Singh where one Dr Mushtaq known to the complainant pleaded for their release.

However, the SDPO and SHO demanded Rs 2 lakh for their release which was negotiated to Rs. 1.20 lakh. Under compelling circumstances, Dr Mushtaq paid Rs 20000 out of his own pocket in cash on spot to SDPO Zubeer Mirza.Thereafter, on the interference of senior officers, the complainant and other detunes were released on September 16, 2014 from illegal/wrongful confinement.

“In view of the above and of the evidence on record, it has been prima facie established that the police officials in blatant abuse of their official position and in active connivance and in league with each other demanded and accepted bribe amount of Rs 20000 from the complainant in order to release the complainant and his family members from illegal confinement. The case has been entrusted to Inspector Kamal Sangra for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Vigilance Organization Kashmir today produced challan against accused public servant namely Ghulam Rasool Shah R/o Pricho Pulwama, the then Patwari Halqa Lethpora, Pulwama in the Court of Additional Anti-corruption Judge Pulwama presided by Verinder Singh Bhou.The case was registered on the basis of a written complaint lodged by Farooq Ahmad Mir R/o Hatiwar Lethpora Pulwama alleging that he had submitted an application to Tehsildar Pampore on 04.07.2014 after depositing the prescribed fees in Govt. Treasury for obtaining revenue extracts with regard to land falling under Survey No. 285 at village Estate Lethpora which was endorsed by the concerned Tehsildar to Patwari Halqa Lethpora who adopted delay tactics and finally demanded Rs. 5000 as bribe from him for providing the said revenue extracts.  After great persuasion by the complainant, who was against the bribe, brought Rs. 2000 with  Vigilance Kashmir for taking legal action in the matter.After registration of case, the trap team headed by Dy. SP Syroz Ahmad accused Patwari was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs. 2000 from the complainant.(Agencies)
