Chennai, Oct 30: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Vijay Joseph has suspended the Deputy Superintendent of Theni District Jail following the escape of 17 prisoners from the facility.
The official, N. Ram, who had been serving as Deputy Superintendent since August 24, 2024, was suspended over alleged failures in prison administration and security supervision.
The development comes after two prisoners escaped from Chennai’s high-security Puzhal Central Prison on October 20.
Seven police teams were deployed to trace the escapees.
