Srinagar, Oct 20: Ali Muhammad Sagar urged the Union Government to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without further delay, stating that it is the legitimate constitutional and democratic right of the people.
Addressing party office-bearers and workers at Nawa-i-Subh Complex, NC General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar said that the party has always fought historic battles for the rights, identity, dignity and development of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the restoration of statehood is not only the essential first step towards strengthening democracy but will also ensure more effective resolution of public grievances.
He said that the democratic government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has, over the past two years, worked with sincerity and commitment towards advancing its agenda of public welfare, development and prosperity.
Sagar said that several initiatives have been undertaken to improve infrastructure, construct roads, enhance electricity and water supply, establish new power projects, create employment and self-employment opportunities for youth, promote tourism, strengthen education and healthcare sectors, and improve the delivery of public services.
He added that the positive impact of these measures is becoming visible on the ground.
Taking a strong exception to the opposition parties, Sagar said that political opponents have no constructive agenda to present before the public and remain confined to a politics of criticism for its own sake.
He said that the opposition has become unsettled by the Omar Abdullah-led government's performance over the past two years, its public support and its developmental initiatives, and is therefore resorting to baseless allegations and misleading propaganda.
Sagar said that the people are well aware of who is taking concrete steps to address their concerns and who are engaged merely in rhetoric and allegations for political gains.
