J&K Government notifies the Jammu & Kashmir Homestay Policy, 2026

Jammu, Oct 14: Following the approval of Council of Ministers, the Government has notified the Jammu & Kashmir Homestay Policy, 2026, providing a simple and enabling framework to expand quality tourist accommodation, particularly in rural, border, heritage and emerging tourism destinations.

The policy introduces a hassle-free registration with Silver and Gold classifications, enabling local homeowners to host visitors, showcase J&K’s culture and hospitality, and generate sustainable livelihood opportunities.

It also provides for registration of eligible residential properties, not being used by families for their own residence, as Bed & Breakfast establishments, further augmenting hospitality infrastructure and creating additional income opportunities for households.

The policy will help take tourism beyond traditional destinations, strengthen local economies, promote our heritage and ensure that the benefits of tourism reach communities across J&K.
