JAMMU, Oct 01: Chamber of Commerce & Industry Jammu held a Press Conference yesterday under the leadership of its President Sh. Arun Gupta along with Office Bearers regarding the show cause notices issued to around 200 shops by the Jammu Municipal Corporation recently. In the press conference Sh. Arun Gupta highlighted the concerns, hardships and mental harassment faced by the shopkeepers, especially during ongoing festival season due to these notices and urged the JMC to adopt a practical and sympathetic approach.
Subsequently Chamber delegation led by Sh. Arun Gupta met with the Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation and discussed the entire issue in detail. While speaking on the occasion Sh. Arun Gupta said that it is very unfortunate and unacceptable especially given that traders are already grappling with post pandemic, economic stress, rising operational cost and sluggish market demand. Sweeping action without prior consultation are clear guidelines only serve to undermine the trust between the business community and the civic administration and requested that no further notices or action should be taken in this regard so that businessmen can carry on their day today business without any stress and harassment.
The Commissioner JMC gave a patient hearing and assured that no shopkeeper will be harassed during the festival season and no further notices will be issued in this regard however regarding the notices already issued he said that they should submit their reply as these notices have been issued on the directions of the Supreme Court and JMC will take lenient view in this regard.
The Chamber of Commerce & Industry expresses its gratitude and appreciates the prompt intervention of the Commissioner JMC in resolving the issue of notices issued to various traders recently and highly commends his swift action in addressing the matter effectively.
Chamber appealed the members of the business community that in case they need any help for submitting their reply they may approach the Chamber.
Chamber further appeals the members of the business community to stop the online shopping and also advise their family members not to purchase items through online shopping instead visit the market.
