Kathua, Sep 11: MLA Kathua Dr. Bharat Bhushan today started Saheed Piar Singh Memorial work in Kukey Chak, Kathua - the native habitation of brave soldier.
Dr. Bharat Bhushan while paying tributes to late soldier apprised that Sardar Piar Singh attained martyrdom while serving in Siachen Glacier in January 2004 in “Operation Meghdoot”. He sacrificed his own life while saving lives of his colleagues in snow avalanche.
He was awarded Sena Medal by Govt. of India posthumously. Dr. Bharat Bhushan while speaking on the occasion stated that he has earmarked funds for the memorial of Saheed Piar Singh.
A statue with plaque of Saheed Piar Singh in addition to a Yoga Shed for Morning Walkers will be constructed as a tribute to the brave soldier.
The wife, other members of the Saheed Piar Singh’s family, villagers of Kukey Chak, prominent citizens of Kathua and a galaxy of media persons were present on the occasion.
