Devinder Behal  may have passed secret information to Pakistan ; expelled from Jammu Bar Association

S. Sidartha Paramedical Training Institute, Sunjwan, Jammu

JAMMU, Aug 01: The Bar Association of Jammu today expelled lawyer Devinder Singh Behal, who is associated with Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, after he was arrested by the NIA in a terror funding case.

The decision to expel him was unanimous and aimed at sending a clear message that no one will tolerate any anti-national activity.

“As we came to know about his (Behal) activities, we verified our records and immediately decided to expel him without any notice from the primary membership of the association," BAJ president BS Salathia told reporters in Jammu.

Devinder Singh Behal, a close aide of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani , whose premises were raided by the NIA on Sunday in the J&K terror funding case, was allegedly in touch with people in the Pakistani high commission here and may have leaked national secrets, including Indian troop movement details, to the ISI.

“We suspect that Behal, who has been in close contact with people in Pakistan HC, was passing on classified information to alleged ISI moles, putting national security at risk. This is a serious offence and a potential ground to charge him under Section 121 of IPC (waging war against the state),” a senior NIA officer said.
