RAJOURI, JULY 15: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma today inspected development works executed under the Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) in Block Doongi to review water conservation and soil management initiatives.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner inspected a check dam constructed at Ward No 06, Panchayat Doongi Brahmana. The project, completed during financial year 2026-27, was executed at a cost of ₹7.90 lakh against an estimated cost of ₹8 lakh.
Officials informed the Deputy Commissioner that the check dam is benefiting around 25 to 30 families by enhancing water availability for agriculture, reducing soil erosion, facilitating groundwater recharge and contributing to ecological sustainability of the area.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for regular maintenance and optimum utilisation of watershed infrastructure to ensure long-term benefits, noting that the IWMP is playing a significant role in conserving natural resources, improving agricultural productivity and strengthening water security.
He directed officers concerned to ensure timely execution of watershed projects with a focus on quality, durability and community participation.
Among those present were Additional District Development Commissioner Malik Zada Sheraz Ul Haq, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Mohd Rafeeq and Block Development Officer Doongi.
