NEW Delhi , June 24: In a major relief for government employees appointed on compassionate grounds, the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲 (𝗗𝗼𝗣𝗣𝗪) 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗹𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 (𝗢𝗣𝗦) 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟯𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟯, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟰.
Under the revised approach, the date of application for compassionate appointment will be treated as the deciding factor for pension eligibility, instead of the date on which the employee formally joined service.
The decision addresses a long-standing issue faced by employees who were caught between the transition from the Old Pension Scheme to the National Pension System (NPS), which became applicable to new central government recruits from January 1, 2004.
