SRINAGAR, June 10: Member Legislative Assembly, Kathua, Dr. Bharat Bhushan today urged the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to address the issues of Safai Karamcharies and inflated power bills.
In this regard MLA, Dr. Bharat Bhushan submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister, through Nasir Aslam Sogami, Advisor to Chief Minister as Chief Minister was in New Delhi.
Dr. Bharat Bhushan apprised Advisor that Safai Karamcharies of Urban Local Bodies including of Municipal Council Kathua are on strike since last over three weeks demanding regularization of their services.
He said that issue regarding regularization of services of Safai Karamcharies is pending since last over 20 years. He lamented that the Government has not conceded their genuine demand despite giving assurance on the floor of the Assembly of considering their demands in response to one of my supplementaries.
He urged the Chief Minister to engage the striking workers and take steps to regularize them on priority.
The second important issue the MLA brought to the notice of Chief Minister who holds portfolio of Power Development also to examine the issue of inflated electricity bills of the consumers.
He apprised that consumers who had cleared all their power liabilities in March 2026 have been given electricity Bills of May, 2026 raging from one lakh to three lakh and even more.
This has generated large scale resentment among the electricity consumers and most of the consumers are in a state of shock and distress.
He urged the Government to examine this serious issue concerning common man and come out with a workable solution so that consumers are in a position to pay bills of consumed electricity only.
